TL;DR
Senior Backend Engineer (ML): Building and operating distributed backend systems for ShelfView’s real-time retail shelf-visibility and store-monitoring platform with an accent on workflow orchestration, GPU-backed model serving, multi-tenancy, and observability. Focus on scaling ML pipelines for billions of product-location updates, designing service APIs, hardening identity infrastructure, and debugging production systems under enterprise load.
Location: Tampere, Finland; flexible office, hybrid, or home working is available, with remote-work support across Switzerland, Finland, Poland, the UK, Italy, and Germany. Candidates must be eligible to work in the hiring location.

What you will do
- Load- and stress-test the platform against large-scale retail deployments and resolve capacity gaps.
- Develop infrastructure and GPU-capacity strategies for demanding ML model-serving workloads.
- Collaborate with AI and ML researchers and engineers to productionize their innovations.
- Extend and secure multi-tenant architecture, identity capabilities, and service APIs for enterprise customers and regions.
- Improve observability and use production data to identify and resolve system issues.
- Mentor engineers and help define technical direction as the team scales.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience delivering cloud software.
- Experience evaluating and adopting workflow-orchestration or distributed-pipeline tooling in production, such as Temporal, Celery, Airflow, or Dagster.
- Hands-on experience with SSO, OAuth/OIDC, RBAC, identity systems, and multi-tenant architectures.
- Experience with distributed tracing, metrics, structured logging, databases, service-oriented architectures, cloud data pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Strong Python skills and proficiency in multiple programming languages, plus experience with CI/CD, automation testing, and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
- Must be eligible to work in the hiring location.
