Cloud Platform Tech Lead (AWS)

Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom; hybrid role. The role supports Abcam Global Operations and includes approximately 10% travel, including overnight travel within the assigned territory or locations.

What you will do

• Engineer, deliver, and continuously improve enterprise cloud platform capabilities across networking, identity, connectivity, compute, storage, and container platforms.
• Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption using Terraform and CloudFormation, promoting GitOps and automation-first practices.
• Build and maintain reusable infrastructure modules, templates, and deployment pipelines.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning so it is repeatable, version-controlled, and secure.
• Implement governance, resilience, recoverability, operational readiness, and infrastructure-code quality standards.
• Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Product Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams or providing technical leadership.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating AWS platforms in enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, connectivity, and identity management.
• Experience supporting business-critical production platforms.
• AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications, plus a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Landing Zones.
• Experience with Platform Engineering and SRE operating models.
• Experience with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
• Experience with observability and monitoring platforms.
