2nd/3rd Line Cyber Defence Engineer

Location: Onsite in Newport, United Kingdom, with limited opportunity to work from home. Open only to sole British Citizens; security clearance of at least DV level is required or must be obtained.

What you will do

• Support SOC engineers and analysts, including monitoring audit and security logs for breaches and malware across available zones.
• Maintain SOC tooling and remote standalone platforms, including backups, restores, scheduled maintenance, and health checks.
• Deploy approved patches, software fixes, and policy updates within agreed KPIs and SLAs.
• Support change and release management and provide advice and guidance for scheduled patching.
• Produce reports on SLA and system performance, obsolescence, risk, and system availability.
• Liaise with Newport MRO on daily checks and system health status.

Requirements

• Professional experience in cyber engineering, with a strong networking background; experience on MoD contracts is desirable.
• Knowledge of SOC tooling, including IDPS, firewalls, SIEM, Splunk, and email and web protection.
• Experience implementing and troubleshooting Cisco ASR, Palo Alto, or Fortinet firewall technologies.
• Strong understanding of network technologies, scripting and programming, and Windows and Red Hat server systems.
• Experience with scheduled maintenance, patching, SOC systems maintenance, and CIS hardening.
• Sole British Citizenship and DV-level security clearance eligibility are mandatory due to nationality and security requirements.
