Livestock and Farm Assistant Manager (Animal Science)

Location: hirify.global research center, Montana, United States; onsite agricultural and livestock operations with travel and work outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.

Salary: $23.684–$29.604 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Support feedstuff production, irrigation, hay raking and baling, crop seeding, spraying, and harvesting.
• Manage daily cattle operations, including feeding, calving, breeding, weaning, pasture moves, health care, low-stress handling, and facility maintenance.
• Operate, maintain, schedule, and help repair farm, ranch, haying, and heavy equipment; maintain shop database records.
• Implement feedlot research studies, process rations, determine feed rates, collect feed samples, and maintain accurate production and research records.
• Supervise and train student and temporary employees, including during livestock feeding, calving, health, and facility-maintenance activities.
• Assist with safety meetings, employee training, research projects, livestock watering, manure handling, and composting operations.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Animal Science, Range Sciences, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated experience with cattle handling, behavior, husbandry, modern livestock management, farm facilities, and equipment.
• Experience supervising employees, primarily undergraduate student employees.
• Experience operating, maintaining, and repairing large, heavy, and small farm and ranch equipment.
• Experience producing feedstuffs and irrigated and dryland hay, including operating associated equipment.
• Must have or be able to obtain a research and demonstration pesticide license, hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable record, and meet Montana requirements for State/University vehicles.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Crop Science, Agricultural Mechanics, or a closely related field.
• Experience as an agricultural or heavy-equipment mechanic.
• Experience with budgets, agricultural research, low-stress cattle handling, and university purchasing guidelines.
