Location: Prairie View, Texas, United States. Work is performed in office, field, livestock, greenhouse, and outdoor agricultural environments, with occasional evening, weekend, holiday, emergency response, and travel requirements.

Prairie View A&M University’s College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources operates a university farm and ranch supporting research, teaching, extension, outreach, and public service.

What you will do

  • Lead daily crop, livestock, greenhouse, pasture, natural resource, facility, and support operations.
  • Develop operational plans, production schedules, labor plans, land-use strategies, and resource allocation models.
  • Coordinate land, equipment, personnel, and facilities for faculty research, field trials, teaching laboratories, student learning, and extension programming.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, schedule, and evaluate farm personnel, technicians, seasonal employees, student workers, interns, and support staff.
  • Oversee equipment, vehicles, irrigation systems, barns, fencing, storage facilities, greenhouses, maintenance programs, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Manage budgets, procurement, inventories, operational records, compliance programs, stakeholder partnerships, and agricultural outreach activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, animal science, agricultural engineering, agricultural systems management, natural resources, environmental science, agribusiness, or a closely related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in farm management, agricultural operations, research farm administration, ranch operations, or a related agricultural setting.
  • Knowledge of crop production, livestock operations, pasture management, irrigation, natural resources, sustainable agriculture, farm equipment, and agricultural safety.
  • Knowledge of environmental stewardship, land management, pesticide regulations, compliance standards, budgeting, inventory management, and workforce coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve operational problems, and collaborate with faculty, researchers, extension personnel, students, and stakeholders.
  • Employment may be affected if immigration sponsorship is required; the university will not pay the stated H-1B fee.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a related agricultural or natural resources field.
  • Experience managing integrated crop and livestock systems, large-scale agricultural operations, multidisciplinary teams, research trials, extension demonstrations, or student learning environments.
  • Experience with precision agriculture, AI-enabled agricultural systems, remote sensing, greenhouse automation, or digital farm management platforms.
  • Licensed pesticide applicator certification or the ability to obtain it within 3–6 months after hire.
