Quality Assurance Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States; on-site work is required.

Salary: $112,300–$160,100 per year, plus bonus or incentive opportunities.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and execute test strategies for backend services, REST APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks and validation pipelines to improve coverage and release confidence.
• Validate real-time market data, charting services, technical studies, historical data, scanners, watchlists, and order execution workflows.
• Investigate defects across complex systems using logs, metrics, traces, and observability tools.
• Support production releases, issue triage, root-cause analysis, and remediation to improve stability and resiliency.
• Lead quality engineering initiatives, promote automation-first practices, and mentor team members.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience testing the thinkorswim code base, including charting applications, market data services, trading workflows, or backend systems.
• Experience designing comprehensive tests for backend services, APIs, service-to-service communication, messaging platforms, and event-driven architectures.
• Strong technical expertise in Java, microservices, REST APIs, messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, JMS, or QDS, and CI/CD tooling.
• Experience with Git, Maven or Gradle, TeamCity or GitHub Actions, SQL, and relational databases.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in high-throughput, low-latency systems, plus experience with Agile development and quality engineering practices.
• Ability to work on site in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Nice to have

• Experience with contract testing, schema validation, performance, load, stress, and resiliency testing.
• Experience with Gatling, JMeter, K6, Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar tools.
• Experience mentoring QA or software engineers and leading large-scale quality engineering initiatives.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
