TL;DR
Airflow Reliability Engineer (Apache Airflow/Kubernetes): Solving complex Apache Airflow problems for customers using a managed Airflow service with an accent on data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and customer reliability. Focus on troubleshooting distributed systems, optimizing Airflow configurations, contributing to open-source Airflow, and maintaining reliable customer operations through pager and on-call coverage.

Location: Remote within the United States; Austin, Boston, or New York City. The role is remote, with a mandatory in-person interview.

Salary: $125,000–$130,000 annual total compensation, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

  • Provide Apache Airflow expertise and white-glove guidance to customers using the managed Airflow service.
  • Troubleshoot complex Airflow issues, optimize configurations, identify bugs, and help customers meet SLAs.
  • Build expertise across Airflow, data engineering, Kubernetes, containers, and cloud engineering.
  • Collaborate with customer data engineers, system administrators, DevOps teams, and management.
  • Spend up to 20% of working time on side projects, including open-source Airflow contributions and internal monitoring systems.
  • Participate in a six-hour pager period during the workday and paid weekend on-call rotations to support 24x7 coverage.

Requirements

  • Background in data engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience with Python.
  • At least 1 year of experience administering Airflow and creating DAGs.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containers, and distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, autonomy, and customer communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.

Nice to have

  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Customer support experience.
  • Familiarity with SQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, or similar data engineering tools.
