Summer 2027 Surety Underwriting Intern (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid, with three days in the office at one of the following U.S. locations: New York City (Battery Park), Des Moines, Iowa, Avon, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Houston, Texas.

Salary: $23–$50 per hour, based on geographic-specific salary structures and candidate qualifications.

What you will do

• Gather information from multiple sources and company guidelines to support surety underwriting.
• Review individual risks for acceptability and accept, reject, or modify risks within delegated authority.
• Analyze CPA and company financial statements, schedules, and related underwriting information.
• Complete underwriting transactions, enter policies, and run reports for underwriting files.
• Consult with agents and internal partners and recommend business development and service opportunities.
• Collaborate with territory, field, claims, sales, and other associates to gather and share information.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management, finance, accounting, risk management, insurance, economics, or a related field.
• Completion of the junior year is preferred.
• Ability to analyze insurance risks and determine acceptability and pricing.
• Basic analytical and financial techniques, problem-solving, and effective time-management skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal and external contacts.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement with three days in a designated U.S. office.
