Mid-level Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Hybrid in Amsterdam, with at least three days in the office and more during onboarding

Salary: €85,000 plus €20,000 in stock options

What you will do

• Build backend systems for physical payment terminals and merchant infrastructure in a newly formed Go team.
• Design how devices, merchants, currencies, and payment flows interact securely.
• Take services through design, testing, deployment, and production operation.
• Handle distributed-systems challenges involving retries, idempotency, state consistency, and device provisioning.
• Apply observability and change-management practices to production services.

Requirements

• 2–6 years of backend engineering experience.
• Production experience with Go.
• Experience building and operating production services.
• Comfort with distributed systems, retries, idempotency, and state consistency.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and first-principles thinking.
• Ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly in English.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, crypto, infrastructure, platforms, or embedded systems.
• Knowledge of security, encryption, or device-adjacent backend systems.
• Experience with AWS, serverless, or on-call work.
• Technical MSc.
