Data Platform Engineer (Databricks)

Location: Onsite four days per week at the main office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

What you will do

• Administer and support Azure Databricks workspaces, clusters, jobs, runtimes, SQL Warehouses, compute policies, and platform configurations.
• Troubleshoot production issues involving cluster instability, failed or slow jobs, performance bottlenecks, connectivity, resource constraints, and platform availability.
• Manage Databricks governance and security, including Entra ID/AAD groups, service principals, permissions, secrets, Unity Catalog, and workspace access.
• Optimize performance and cloud costs through cluster sizing, autoscaling, Photon, workload optimization, and compute policies.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD, automation, job orchestration, and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Azure DevOps and Terraform.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, DataOps, Infrastructure, Security, DBA, and vendor teams while managing incidents, releases, root cause analysis, runbooks, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Azure Databricks and providing L2/L3 production support.
• Strong Azure cloud experience, including networking, storage, identity and access, security, monitoring, and Databricks integration.
• Experience troubleshooting complex production issues involving Databricks performance, connectivity, availability, jobs, and resource constraints.
• Strong communication, ownership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently drive issues through resolution.
• Ability to work onsite four days per week at the main office in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Nice to have

• Hands-on SQL Server administration and support experience.
• Hands-on MongoDB administration and support experience.
