Network Security Engineer

Location: Hybrid; available for Lisbon, Portugal-based hires. Applicants progressing to the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

Salary: €38,000–52,000 annual salary for Lisbon-based hires. The role is also eligible for hirify.global's equity plan.

What you will do

• Communicate with customers through chat, email, and phone to resolve complex technical issues, threats, and attacks.
• Analyze traffic signatures and attributes, including IP addresses, cookies, HTTP headers, and JavaScript footprints, to distinguish legitimate from malicious traffic.
• Advise customers on DDoS mitigation across OSI Layers 3, 4, and 7 using Magic Transit, Network Firewall, WAF, IP reputation lists, packet inspection, blocklisting, allowlisting, and rate limiting.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to recommend and apply appropriate attack mitigations.
• Work with Engineering and Product teams to improve hirify.global products and security tools.

Requirements

• Fundamental understanding of how the Internet works and advanced knowledge of TCP and UDP.
• Computer networking experience, including iptables, looking glass tools, BGP routing, and GRE tunnels.
• Experience troubleshooting network connectivity, DNS, SSL/TLS, and HTTP issues.
• Experience analyzing packet captures and using command-line tools such as curl, dig, traceroute, openssl, and git.
• Experience with web development or hosting environments and configuring web servers such as Apache, Nginx, Caddy, or IIS.
• Ability to learn independently, write scripts in Bash, Python, JavaScript, or another scripting language, and work effectively in a customer-facing team.

Nice to have

• Fluency in German, Japanese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Mandarin.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL, or other database servers.
• Familiarity with hirify.global and active use of its platform.
