Postdoctoral Researcher - NRCS (Hydrology)

What you will do

• Lead a USDA-NRCS-funded environmental research project.
• Develop environmental stressor maps and conduct flood, drought, soil loss, carbon sequestration, and crop analyses at county, farm, field, and watershed scales.
• Establish a demonstration research testbed on the PVAMU Research farm and implement climate-smart production practices on selected farms.
• Support hydrological, flood, drought, soil erosion, eco-hydrological, irrigation, nutrient management, and crop modeling projects.
• Lead and participate in field data collection, laboratory experiments, spatial data analysis, and modeling evaluation.
• Prepare research reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals; present findings and support extension activities and student research.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in earth science, geography, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or a related field emphasizing remote sensing, carbon dynamics, climate change, or eco-hydrology.
• Experience with hydrological modeling, flood modeling, GIS, carbon modeling, and crop modeling.
• Strong quantitative, numerical modeling, analytical, and statistical skills.
• Strong programming experience in R, Python, C, C++, or comparable languages.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an interest in multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Work is associated with Prairie View, Texas, and field activities at the PVAMU Research farm.

Nice to have

• 1–3 years of related work experience.
• Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning.
• Peer-reviewed publications and grant proposal preparation experience.
• Experience with field research design, laboratory analytical techniques, natural resource management, and project implementation at multiple scales.
• Experience working with and training undergraduate and graduate students.
