Staff Data Engineer

Salary: $160,000–$205,000 CAD per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for analytics, reporting, product, and operational use cases.
• Develop, test, and optimize dbt models, dimensional models, semantic models, and analytical data models.
• Manage data orchestration platforms, including Airflow, with exposure to Dagster.
• Drive data architecture decisions, engineering standards, data quality frameworks, observability, governance, metadata, lineage, and data ownership.
• Partner with stakeholders and platform teams to improve data reliability, scalability, and performance and provide actionable analysis.
• Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, support hiring and onboarding, and participate in incident response and root cause analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Statistics, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on expertise with BigQuery, dbt, Airflow, Python, SQL, and modern cloud data platforms.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform services including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer.
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing, ETL/ELT design patterns, dimensional modeling, cloud data transformation pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and data observability.
• Proficiency with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, data visualization tools, stakeholder management, and leading complex cross-team projects.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Azure data platforms and services.
• Experience with Looker, Mode, Tableau, or similar data visualization and exploration platforms.
