AI Engineering Specialist (Gen AI and ML)

Location: Hybrid role based in Evanston, Chicago, Princeton, Thousand Oaks, South San Francisco, or Bellevue, United States. Work combines home working with on-site presence at client or hirify.global offices for most of the week. Client-facing work requires travel as needed.

Salary: $155,000–$167,750 per year, plus potential cost-of-living adjustments, bonuses, relocation support, insurance, and retirement benefits.

What you will do

• Plan work and distribute workloads across project teams while managing client expectations and advising stakeholders on AI and ML solutions.
• Design, develop, and deploy scalable distributed software systems and LLM-based pipelines using RAG, agentic workflows, and parameter-efficient fine-tuning.
• Architect data and AI governance layers with Databricks Unity Catalog, from source data through model outputs.
• Design and implement prompt and response guardrails for responsible AI requirements.
• Use AWS and Azure services, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CloudFormation to automate deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure operations.
• Lead technical discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and end-to-end software development lifecycle execution.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Python and JavaScript coding skills, API framework experience with FastAPI or Django, and knowledge of scalable application design.
• Proficiency with AWS, Azure, Databricks, Unity Catalog, infrastructure-as-code, Terraform, and CloudFormation.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs and SDKs, including OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, LangChain, or DSPy, plus RAG, vector databases, hybrid search, and agent development.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS services such as Redshift, RDS, and S3, production deployments for thousands of users, Redis, and vector search.
• Fluent English, strong communication skills, software engineering and security best practices, Git, DevOps, and Agile or Scrum experience.

Nice to have

• Front-end development experience with React, Next.js, or Tailwind CSS.
• Experience with Azure DevOps.
