Assistant Sanctions Manager (Financial Services): Providing specialist sanctions advice, assessing sanctions cases and risks, and investigating breaches across a regulated banking organisation with an accent on sanctions decisioning, screening, and control governance. Focus on analysing complex cases, making risk-based decisions, supporting remediation, and enhancing sanctions controls.

Location: Hybrid role based at Edinburgh New Uberior House Head Office or Bristol Harbourside, with at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site.

Salary: £47,396–£49,890 per year

What you will do

  • Provide specialist sanctions advice and guidance to business partners across the Group.
  • Assess sanctions payments and cases, completing Sanctions Authorisation Forms in line with policy and international law.
  • Conduct sanctions risk assessments covering customers, transactions, products, and emerging risks.
  • Investigate sanctions breaches, control issues, and regulatory concerns, supporting remediation.
  • Manage sanctions referrals and technical queries from Commercial Banking and Trade Finance colleagues.
  • Support governance, reporting, and continuous improvement across the sanctions control environment.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of sanctions regulations and sanctions risk management in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience providing sanctions advice and guidance, completing risk assessments, and reviewing complex sanctions cases.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and make balanced, risk-based decisions.
  • Experience building relationships with business partners and providing constructive challenge.
  • Ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and support practical solutions and controls.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting sanctions screening frameworks, governance activities, or investigations.
  • Knowledge of trade finance, payments, or corporate banking.
  • Experience handling complex sanctions referrals or working with regulators and regulatory expectations.
