Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: Remote across the Americas and EMEA

Salary: $230,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, ship, and own product features end to end, from problem scoping through production rollout and maintenance.
• Develop performant backend systems operating at large scale for thousands of developers and hundreds of millions of end-users.
• Work directly with customers and support to understand product usage, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in incident response, on-call rotation, code reviews, and reliability initiatives.
• Contribute to technical proposals, architecture discussions, roadmap decisions, and team direction.
• Mentor engineers and drive improvements in system reliability, scalability, and performance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing complex, fast-growing backend systems.
• Experience with Python and PostgreSQL.
• Ability to write advanced SQL queries beyond basic SELECT and UPDATE statements.
• Experience building SDKs and shipping meaningful user-facing features to production.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including high-quality, well-tested code and methodical debugging.
• Clear written and real-time communication in a fully remote environment, along with ownership, product sense, and mentoring ability.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping a mobile app with in-app purchases.
• Some experience with React and single-page applications.
