Software Development Engineer 2 (Java)

Location: Remote, based in Ireland; occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.

What you will do

• Design, implement, verify, deploy, and operate real-time Voice Trust services with high-throughput and low-latency requirements.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, technical design, estimation, sprint planning, coding, testing, deployment, and on-call support.
• Build robust, scalable solutions based on customer and stakeholder needs.
• Scale and maintain a complex distributed platform with globally distributed points of presence.
• Collaborate with product managers, leads, architects, and cross-functional teams through clear technical documentation.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of hands-on experience with large-scale distributed applications using JVM-based technologies.
• Strong Java fundamentals and experience with RESTful services, API design, event-driven architectures, Kafka, or SQS.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack, or Azure.
• Experience critically evaluating AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability, and proficiency with AI coding assistants such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field, plus strong written communication and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, and monitoring or alerting tools such as Prometheus, Datadog, or Grafana.
• Experience scaling SQL/NoSQL data tiers, caching technologies, and horizontally scalable backend systems.
• Knowledge of SIP and Stir/Shaken protocols.
