Staff Infrastructure Engineer (Payments)

Location: United States or Canada. Remote-first; hybrid attendance is required for employees living within 30 miles of an office. Hiring is currently limited to specified US states and Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia in Canada.

What you will do

• Architect, build, and optimize multi-region, highly available AWS infrastructure managed entirely through code.
• Replace manual operations with self-healing infrastructure using Terraform, GitOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• Build end-to-end observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, and lead incident management and blameless post-mortems.
• Design platform Golden Paths that improve engineering velocity and mentor teams on reliable delivery practices.
• Partner with Product, Security, and Core Engineering teams on platform architecture, enablement, and adoption.
• Architect and operate high-performance, low-latency private connectivity for external customers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience owning outcomes in complex, large-scale distributed systems and mission-critical environments.
• Advanced AWS and Terraform expertise for building reproducible infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, EKS, Docker, and GitOps workflows using Flux, Argo, or GitHub Actions.
• Strong coding skills in Python, Go, or Bash for infrastructure automation and operational tooling.
• Deep experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry at scale.
• Understanding of cloud security, API gateways, load balancing, and network isolation.

Nice to have

• Experience with tokenization, payment processing, cryptology, or security products.
• Experience managing Kafka-based distributed data streaming platforms, including MSK.
• Database performance tuning and query optimization skills.
• Familiarity with Java and Spring Framework services.
• BA/BS degree and experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
