TL;DR
Research Engineer IV (Multi-Agent Autonomy): Designing and implementing autonomous behaviors, multi-agent coordination software, perception and navigation stacks, and ROS2 integrations for heterogeneous air and ground vehicle fleets with an accent on embedded systems, sensor fusion, and field deployment. Focus on optimizing distributed communication, debugging physical hardware, validating algorithms through simulation, and leading system experimentation and field testing.

Location: Bryan, Texas, United States; onsite work with system experimentation and field testing at the RELLIS campus. Restricted to U.S. citizens only.

Salary: $5,667.67–$9,583.33 per month, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and optimize software architectures for multi-agent coordination within autonomy stacks.
  • Develop high-performance Python and C++ code for embedded hardware and ROS2 middleware.
  • Build and refine perception, navigation, simulation, and sensor-fusion systems for UTVs, UGVs, UAVs, and autonomous helicopters.
  • Integrate and deploy ROS2 nodes, sensors, compute hardware, and system components across heterogeneous air and ground platforms.
  • Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, hardware tuning, and reliability work for integrated autonomy systems.
  • Direct system experimentation and field testing, mentor junior research staff, and produce technical reports, presentations, and publications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least six years of related experience, including multi-agent coordination or path-planning framework development.
  • Experience conducting hardware and sensor-fusion trade-off studies.
  • Advanced proficiency in ROS2, C++, and Python, with experience in system-level integration.
  • Ability to debug physical hardware, optimize distributed communication middleware, and work with Linux, networking, and sensor drivers.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a U.S. Department of War Security Clearance.
