TL;DR
Senior Autonomy Engineer (Robotics): Designing and implementing autonomy modules for adaptive orchestration of heterogeneous UAV, USV, and UUV fleets with an accent on mission planning, path generation, behavior execution, and task allocation. Focus on making AI-generated plans executable and safe, validating navigation and control through simulation-in-loop and hardware-in-loop testing, and optimizing autonomy for edge devices.

Location: Austin, TX; hybrid on-site with up to 20% travel. U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a security clearance are required.

Company

hirify.global is a veteran-owned, venture-backed technology company developing autonomous orchestration for heterogeneous unmanned systems across air, sea, land, and space.

What you will do

  • Design and implement autonomy modules for path planning, task allocation, behavior trees, and reactive execution.
  • Develop the autonomy framework connecting AI-driven mission planning, orchestration, and world modeling.
  • Ensure AI-generated plans are executable, explainable, and safe across multi-domain robotic platforms.
  • Implement and validate navigation, control, and autonomy behaviors for UAVs, USVs, and UUVs using event-driven middleware and simulation environments.
  • Profile and optimize autonomy performance for Jetson and Raspberry Pi-class edge hardware.
  • Conduct simulation-in-loop and hardware-in-loop testing and contribute to safety, reliability, and compliance practices.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience developing autonomy or robotics systems.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python for real-time autonomy development.
  • Hands-on experience with Zenoh, MQTT, DDS, or similar event-driven/pub-sub middleware.
  • Background in motion planning, navigation, control systems, state estimation, and sensor fusion.
  • Experience with autonomy validation, behavior trees, task allocation, symbolic planners, and simulation environments such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or AirSim.
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

Nice to have

  • Rust experience for systems-level or real-time autonomy development.
  • Multi-agent coordination, swarm robotics, or autonomous vehicle experience.
  • Familiarity with MAVLink, JAUS, or STANAG 4586.
  • Experience with AI planning, reinforcement learning, constraint solvers, or embedded real-time optimization.
  • Defense or aerospace autonomy experience and open-source robotics contributions.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative, respectful, and trust-based work environment.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans, plus FSA, DCFSA, and HSA options.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match and equity grants for new hires.
  • Unlimited PTO, paid holidays, generous holiday scheduling, and parental and military leave.
  • Professional development opportunities and mental health and work-life support services.

Hiring process

  • Career progression may include Senior Autonomy Engineer, Staff/Principal Engineer, or Autonomy Lead paths.
