Autonomy Software Engineer (C++) (Robotics)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States; willingness to travel and spend time in the field is required. US citizenship is required.

Near Earth Autonomy develops autonomous flight technology for aircraft used in inspection, mapping, surveying, and transport.

What you will do

• Implement, maintain, and improve autonomy software and algorithms for full-scale autonomous helicopters.
• Build and maintain autonomous behaviors within the aircraft autonomy architecture.
• Own utility and core software modules based on experience.
• Design and develop software at a fast development tempo.
• Integrate and field-test robotic systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in robotics, computer science, computer engineering, or an equivalent field.
• Strong C++ design and programming skills.
• Experience with Python or a similar programming language, ROS2, Linux, software engineering practices, and the software development life cycle.
• Knowledge of robotics concepts including control, motion planning, behavior arbitration, and perception.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, and multitask.
• US citizenship and successful completion of a background check are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in robotics, computer science, or an equivalent field.
• Industry experience in robotics or autonomous flight.
• Experience designing modular, testable, and extensible C++ APIs.
• Experience integrating and field-testing robotic systems.
