TL;DR
Computational Modeling Consultant - CMC (AI/ML): Developing first-principles, mechanistic, and AI/ML models for pharmaceutical CMC and process development with an accent on process understanding, scale-up, manufacturing, and technology transfer. Focus on integrating production-ready models with scientific and manufacturing systems, validating model outputs, and translating complex technical results into recommendations for senior CMC stakeholders.

Location: Hybrid role based in Chicago, Evanston, New York, Princeton, Philadelphia, Boston, or another United States location listed for the position. Work combines home-based work with on-site presence at client or hirify.global offices. Client-facing travel is required as needed.

Salary: $160,000–$177,000 per year, plus potential cost-of-living adjustments, bonuses, relocation benefits, insurance, and retirement benefits.

What you will do

  • Identify high-value opportunities for computational modeling, advanced analytics, and AI/ML across pharmaceutical CMC, process development, scale-up, manufacturing, and technology transfer.
  • Develop and apply first-principles and mechanistic models, including CFD, DEM, computational chemistry, and other physics-based approaches.
  • Build hybrid and AI/ML models to improve process understanding, prediction, optimization, and decision-making.
  • Translate scientific and business questions into modeling strategies, analytical approaches, and implementation plans.
  • Develop production-ready modeling solutions, including testing, deployment, documentation, versioning, validation, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead technical workstreams, integrate models with ELN, LIMS, ERP, and PLM systems, and communicate findings to scientists, engineers, and senior CMC stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, biotechnology, computational science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience, preferably in pharmaceutical CMC, process development, manufacturing, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience with first-principles or mechanistic modeling, such as CFD, DEM, computational chemistry, or process modeling.
  • Experience applying AI/ML to scientific, engineering, or process development problems, with strong programming and production-quality code development skills.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical CMC, including unit operations, Quality by Design, technology transfer, process validation, critical quality attributes, and regulatory milestones.
  • Fluency in English and authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship are required.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in an engineering, scientific, or computational discipline.
  • Experience deploying computational models into production or decision-support environments.
  • Experience with CMC regulatory submissions, model validation, traceability, and documentation.
  • Experience across multiple pharmaceutical modalities, including small molecules, biologics, or cell and gene therapies.
  • Consulting or client-facing experience in pharmaceutical R&D, CMC, or manufacturing.
