Mechanical Designer (Robotics)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, US; onsite

Designs and manufactures advanced robotics systems and components for defense, agricultural, mining, industrial, and off-road autonomy applications.

What you will do

• Model parts and assemblies in SolidWorks for concept development and detailed sensor and mechanism design.
• Create manufacturing drawings using GD&T and improve designs for manufacturability with suppliers.
• Prototype systems in-house using waterjet, laser cutter, mill, lathe, sheet-metal, welding, and 3D-printing equipment.
• Create and maintain engineering bills of materials.
• Transition prototype products to production-validated builds with production technicians and engineers.
• Prepare product reports and occasionally travel, up to 5%, for onsite system testing.

Requirements

• Associate degree in drafting, mechanical design, or a related field.
• Product design experience integrating mechanisms and electronics.
• Strong CAD skills; SolidWorks preferred.
• Understanding of mechanisms and tradeoffs among cost, weight, reliability, lead time, and complexity.
• Strong written and presentation skills for communicating with customers and internal teams.
• Authorization to work for any US employer is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with GD&T drawings, BOM management, and releasing products to production.
• Production-level design and testing experience.
• Hands-on interest in building and testing engineering designs.
