Research Assistant/Associate Professor (Breeding & Genetics) (Quantitative Genetics)

Prairie View A&M University’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources conducts agricultural research and supports the International Goat Research Center.

What you will do

• Develop and implement an independent research program in quantitative genetics, genomic analysis, breeding systems, and data science applications for small ruminants, particularly goats.
• Lead research focused on milk and meat goat production and contribute to herd improvement objectives.
• Support the strategic growth, research initiatives, mission, and infrastructure of the International Goat Research Center.
• Collaborate with faculty in ruminant nutrition, reproduction, parasitology, food science, and related agricultural disciplines.
• Analyze genetic and production data, prepare reports, publish findings, and deliver scientific presentations.
• Participate in university compliance activities, committee service, required training, and other institutional duties.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Animal Breeding, Statistical Genetics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or Data Science.
• Postdoctoral experience in animal breeding or a related field.
• Experience mentoring and advising students.
• Demonstrated potential to secure external funding and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Strong written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Employment is based in Prairie View, Texas, and may be affected by H-1B sponsorship restrictions and related fees.

Nice to have

• At least five years of research experience in breeding, genetics, or data science.
• Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration, grant writing, and leading research projects.
• Peer-reviewed publications in breeding, genetics, or data science.
• Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Background in livestock and small ruminant research.
