Salary: $144,000–$216,000 annually. Geographic-specific structures may apply, including $158,400–$237,600 and $165,600–$248,400.

What you will do

  • Advise on the design, implementation, administration, and compliance of retirement, health and welfare, and other employee benefit programs.
  • Interpret federal and state laws, the federal tax code, and ERISA requirements affecting benefit plans.
  • Collaborate with human resources and management to develop and revise benefits policies and procedures.
  • Draft and review plan descriptions, regulatory filings, disclosures, communications, and claims and appeals documentation.
  • Identify legal risks and develop practical strategies to mitigate them.
  • Expand expertise in employment law, including hiring, wage and hour compliance, leave and accommodations, investigations, terminations, pay equity, compensation, labor relations, and restrictive covenants.

Requirements

  • At least three years of legal experience advising on employee benefit matters in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government position.
  • Strong knowledge of retirement plans, health and welfare programs, fringe benefits, taxation, and ERISA.
  • Juris Doctorate and an exemplary academic record.
  • License to practice law in Wisconsin or commitment to become licensed within the first year.
  • Strong legal analysis, research, communication, presentation, collaboration, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide practical, solution-oriented advice and work proactively with business professionals.
