Housing Operations Coordinator (Student Development Specialist II)

Location: Galveston, Texas; required to live in an on-campus residence hall apartment. The role includes weekend and evening responsibilities, an on-call rotation of 1–2 weeks and weekends per month, essential personnel duties during crises, and possible relocation during a hurricane or campus closure.

Salary: $3,750 monthly proposed minimum; $45,000 annually.

What you will do

• Coordinate residence hall inspections, site visits, work orders, preventive maintenance, renovations, capital improvements, construction initiatives, furniture, equipment, safety walkthroughs, signage, and community spaces.
• Collaborate with university departments, facilities personnel, SSC, and external vendors to maintain safe, accessible, compliant, and well-serviced residential facilities.
• Supervise student Housing Operations staff, including training, scheduling support, performance management, and ongoing development.
• Support StarRez operations, housing assignments, occupancy management, residential processes, and continuity of operations during staff vacancies or absences.
• Coordinate approved housing accommodations with Disability Resources, including communication, logistics, residential modifications, furnishings, and implementation.
• Develop housing operations, safety, weather, fire, and crisis-management programs; adjudicate assigned residential conduct cases; support orientations, student activities, workshops, committees, and student groups.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one year of experience in student affairs work or a related specialty.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of StarRez, Onity, and Ving/VisiOnline.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to comply with state and federal laws and codes, Texas A&M University System and TAMU policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Ability to pass a criminal history investigation and credential or other required institutional verification; the position is security sensitive.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
• At least two years of professional- or graduate-level experience in housing and operations or a related Student Affairs field.
