Outreach Coordinator

Location: Canyon, Texas, United States; required work-related travel to target high schools in Amarillo and Hereford, Texas.

Salary: $16.68 per hour.

West Texas A&M University administers the Upward Bound Math-Science program through its Upward Bound department.

What you will do

• Coordinate outreach activities and services for target high schools and communities.
• Provide individual and group advising on coursework, degree plans, scheduling, college admissions, financial aid, financial literacy, entrance exams, and career exploration.
• Assess participants’ academic, social, and personal needs and develop individual service plans.
• Coordinate tutoring and academic enrichment programs during the academic year and summer.
• Plan and conduct educational, cultural, and career-focused events, presentations, and trips.
• Recruit students, assess eligibility, select participants, and maintain required training compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of related experience counseling or advising high school students on educational requirements and goals.
• Knowledge of secondary education curriculum.
• Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, multitasking, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to use a personal vehicle for work-related travel to target high schools.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout employment.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• Experience providing pre-college outreach and mentoring to first-generation and low-income students.
• Knowledge of Texas public school curriculum, college admissions, and financial aid processes.
• Experience serving TRIO or other underrepresented student populations.
