Associate or Full Professor & Department Head - Literature and Languages

What you will do

• Provide strategic leadership for the Department of Literature and Languages across English, Hispanic Studies, Applied Linguistics, literary studies, rhetoric, communication, Spanish, and digital humanities.
• Review and develop academic programs, curricula, assessment processes, and delivery formats, including the undergraduate Hispanic Studies curriculum and the university-wide Writing Program.
• Lead faculty hiring, evaluation, promotion, tenure, professional development, shared governance, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Build partnerships with colleges, schools, community organizations, industry, alumni, donors, and regional workforce stakeholders.
• Manage budgets, graduate funding, staffing, facilities, research laboratories, and academic infrastructure.
• Strengthen enrollment, advising, student completion, dual-credit pathways, doctoral placement, and career readiness.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in English, Applied Linguistics, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field.
• At least two years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education.
• Record of building partnerships with academic, K–12, community, or industry organizations.
• Experience with program assessment, complex operations, evidence-based resource allocation, and organizational change.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to shared governance, transparent decision-making, faculty development, and mentorship.
• Eligibility for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor with tenure.

Nice to have

• Experience as a department head, chair, or comparable administrator at a regional comprehensive or public R2 university.
• Experience with graduate program development, doctoral education, curriculum restructuring, bilingual workforce initiatives, or interdisciplinary programs.
• Knowledge of Texas higher education, Texas Success Initiative policies, developmental education, and dual-credit administration.
• Experience with natural language processing, computational linguistics, digital humanities, grant acquisition, fundraising, or alumni relations.
