Internship - 2027 Undergraduate and Master's Research & Development Intern

Location: On-site at least four days per week in Maplewood, Minnesota or Austin, Texas, United States

What you will do

• Support the development of new technologies and existing products, businesses, and operations.
• Collaborate with researchers, analytical chemists, process engineers, senior researchers, and other R&D functions.
• Lead assigned product, technology development, application engineering, or digital science projects toward advanced technical solutions.
• Conduct laboratory or computational research involving materials, chemical and physical processes, products, or analytical methods.
• Document experimental work in electronic laboratory notebooks for invention submissions and potential patent applications.
• Analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental results.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in science or engineering at an accredited institution.
• Completed at least freshman year, or two semesters, by the start of the internship.
• Eligible candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employment visa sponsorship.
• Relevant areas include chemical, mechanical, materials, computer, electrical, software, biomolecular engineering, chemistry, polymer science, data science, or related disciplines.
• Experience may include laboratory research, machine learning, data science, software engineering, statistical analysis, materials characterization, robotics, additive manufacturing, or complex data workflows.
• Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, C, C++, or R and familiarity with complex data manipulation, cleansing, and visualization are valued.

Nice to have

• Experience with Microsoft Azure ML or AWS ML.
• Experience applying object-oriented design or design patterns to software development.
• Previous relevant internship or co-op experience, publications, presentations, or demonstrated scientific excellence.
