TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer (Electric Aviation): Developing electrical systems and circuit boards for ground support equipment in electric aviation, with an accent on high-voltage to low-voltage power conversion, PCBA design, and low-voltage power distribution. Focus on designing circuits and system architectures, completing certification and verification activities, and bringing products through manufacturing and field deployment.

Salary: $115,000–$125,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Identify project goals, budgets, and scope with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop system architectures and translate hardware into subassemblies, circuits, and board designs.
  • Design products considering cost, reliability, efficiency, and functionality.
  • Develop electrical designs from low-level circuits through integrated systems and support volume manufacturing and field deployment.
  • Troubleshoot and rework electrical equipment and printed circuit boards.
  • Create test and verification plans and support system-level verification testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and at least 4 years of electrical engineering experience in product design or production.
  • Experience with analog and power component selection, circuit design, simulation, and testing.
  • Current working expertise with Altium for schematic design, PCBA design and layout, and manufacturing.
  • Strong documentation skills for schematics, bills of materials, test plans, and engineering data.
  • Knowledge of CAN, SPI, I2C, MODBUS, TCP/IP, and RS-485 communication protocols.
  • Experience with DFMEA/FMEA, hardware safety testing, applicable standards, and product compliance through third parties such as UL or CE.

Nice to have

  • Power conversion design experience for high-voltage DC systems.
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle charging standards, including J1772, ISO 15118, DIN 760121, and ISO 61851.
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or more than 5 years of experience with electric vehicle interfaces and charging systems.
  • Experience designing and testing for EMI mitigation and EMC.
  • Strong communication, proactive teamwork, self-direction, and problem-solving skills.
