Data Engineer (Azure)

Location: Remote (Canada); 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: $86,000–$106,000 per year; temporary 12-month contract

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable batch and near-real-time data pipelines integrating enterprise applications, databases, cloud platforms, and other data sources.
• Build end-to-end data integration and processing solutions supporting data warehouses, reporting, business intelligence, and analytics.
• Develop Azure-based data solutions using Data Factory, Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and related services.
• Translate business and technical requirements into solution designs, data flows, pipeline architecture, transformation logic, and technical specifications.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipelines, queries, data models, and processing workflows for reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Implement data quality, security, privacy, governance, documentation, source control, testing, deployment, and CI/CD practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, data science, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Three to five years of experience in data engineering, data integration, data warehousing, or a closely related field.
• Production experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, including Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Strong knowledge of data engineering, ETL/ELT, relational databases, SQL, data warehousing, dimensional modelling, schema design, data quality, and data lineage.
• Proficiency in SQL and a data engineering programming or scripting language such as Python or C#.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git, Visual Studio, source control, software testing, code review, deployment, and CI/CD.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
• Certifications or additional education in cloud computing, data engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
