Real-Time Software Engineering Manager (Embedded C++)

Location: Farmingdale, New York, United States; onsite. US citizenship is required because the role must qualify for a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance and comply with ITAR and export-control requirements.

Salary: $149,978–$263,755 annually. An annual or quarterly company bonus may apply.

What you will do

• Lead approximately 10 engineers through the design, development, integration, test, verification, and certification of radar and communication systems.
• Provide mentorship, coaching, talent development, performance feedback, and resource allocation for the software engineering team.
• Define and track team performance metrics while implementing process improvements for productivity and quality.
• Develop and monitor software project plans covering cost, schedule, quality, requirements, and deliverables.
• Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions, manage risks, and lead software proposals and estimates.
• Collaborate with program managers, customers, hardware, systems integration, quality, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a full software development lifecycle environment.
• 3+ years in a formal leadership role such as technical lead, team lead, or engineering manager.
• Hands-on experience with modern C++ and Real-Time Operating Systems.
• Experience managing programs using Earned Value Management and developing or leading real-time embedded software for defense radar or communication systems.
• US citizenship and eligibility for a DoD Secret Clearance are required; compliance with ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and related export-control procedures is also required.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevSecOps tools and practices, including GitLab, Jenkins, Git Bash, Jira, and Artifactory.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of radar, surveillance, communication systems, avionics software standards, and certifications.
