Counsel - Insurance & Consumer Financial Services Law (Hybrid) (Insurance)

Location: Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. Hybrid arrangement requiring at least three days per week in the office for associates within a 90-minute commutable distance.

Salary: $110,000–$180,000 base pay per year.

What you will do

• Advise Affinity Solutions on insurance, regulatory, product, distribution, and related business matters.
• Provide legal support for direct-response insurance programs, including product development, policy and form review, distribution, advertising, sales materials, and regulatory compliance.
• Advise on property and casualty insurance matters and emerging surplus-lines products and distribution models.
• Support market conduct matters, state regulatory inquiries, examinations, and coordination with compliance and regulatory partners.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments and translate requirements into practical guidance.
• Support debt protection, credit insurance, bank partnership, digital lending, agreements, strategic projects, and new product initiatives.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Minnesota, or eligible to become licensed in Minnesota within a reasonable period.
• At least five years of legal experience in a law firm, government, or in-house setting, with meaningful experience in insurance law, consumer financial services law, financial institution regulation, or a related field.
• Experience with legal research, analysis, drafting, negotiation, advocacy, and counseling on complex regulatory matters.
• Business-oriented judgment, critical thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to explain technical legal concepts to management, regulators, clients, and business partners.
• Ability to collaborate, work independently, prioritize competing demands, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
