Summer 2027 Internship - Mechanical Engineering (HVAC)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $30–$40 per hour, depending on current academic standing. Monthly housing stipend and overtime pay are available.

What you will do

• Assist with the design and analysis of air-conditioning, ventilation, and hydronic HVAC systems.
• Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, airflow analysis, psychrometric analysis, and hydronic design under senior engineer guidance.
• Participate in BIM-based system modeling and simulation using Revit, AutoCAD, IES, and related performance tools.
• Coordinate with architectural, nuclear, structural, and electrical disciplines to support design integration and constructability.
• Prepare construction documents, specifications, and as-built documentation.
• Contribute to design automation using Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python, or C# and communicate technical concepts to multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; junior or senior standing is preferred.
• Coursework completed in HVAC design, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid hydraulics or fluid dynamics.
• Basic familiarity with BIM modeling software such as Revit and AutoCAD.
• Interest in IES software or energy analysis, as well as AI design tools, visual programming, coding, or open-source projects.
• Collaborative communication skills and an interest in the built environment.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

• Exposure to mechanical equipment selection, building automation systems, or commissioning.
• Familiarity with energy analysis or system simulation tools.
• Introduction to piping stress analysis and 3D modeling tools such as AutoPipe, Bentley OpenPlant, or Pipe3D.
