Head of Communications (Financial Services)

Location: New York, NY, United States; up to 30% domestic travel

Base salary: $250,000–$275,000 per year, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Develop and lead the enterprise communications strategy aligned with business objectives, reputation, culture, and stakeholder relationships.
• Advise the CEO and senior leadership on executive positioning, sensitive announcements, organizational changes, policy developments, and reputation management.
• Lead internal communications, including enterprise announcements, leadership messaging, companywide meetings, cultural narratives, and business updates.
• Oversee media relations, executive thought leadership, public affairs, corporate storytelling, issues management, and crisis communications.
• Monitor media coverage, stakeholder sentiment, policy trends, and emerging reputational issues while measuring communications effectiveness through data and insights.
• Build and develop the Corporate Communications team, manage agencies and vendors, and oversee the communications budget and headcount plan.

Requirements

• Approximately 10 years of experience in corporate communications, executive communications, public affairs, media relations, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience leading communications teams or significant initiatives in a corporate, public-company, highly regulated, or public-affairs environment.
• Experience advising senior executives and translating complex business, financial, regulatory, or policy topics into clear communications.
• Experience with executive, employee, and stakeholder communications, issues management, organizational change, or crisis communications.
• Strong relationship-building, cross-functional influence, judgment, writing, verbal communication, and measurement skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services, banking, consumer finance, insurance, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
• Experience partnering with Legal, Compliance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Government Relations, or Public Policy teams.
• Experience in both in-house corporate communications and agency environments.
• Familiarity with generative AI tools and emerging communications technologies.
