Scientist, Immunoassay Development

Location: San Carlos, CA, United States. Onsite laboratory-based role requiring a minimum of 4 days per week onsite.

Salary: $129,000–$151,000 per year in the San Francisco Bay Area; ranges may vary for non-California locations.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, qualify, characterize, and manage the lifecycle of immunoassays for potency, antigenicity, identity, impurity, comparability, release, and stability testing.
• Perform hands-on laboratory work, including assay execution, reagent and sample preparation, study setup, instrument operation, data review, and documentation.
• Evaluate ELISA, MSD, bead-based, multiplex, automation-enabled, and other ligand-binding assay platforms.
• Design structured troubleshooting experiments, analyze assay data, and communicate technical findings.
• Support reagent and reference material qualification, stability studies, lot comparisons, routine analytical testing, and GMP-supporting activities.
• Coordinate outsourced immunoassay work and collaborate with scientists and leadership to plan experiments and prioritize laboratory activities.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Immunology, Analytical Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline with 0–2 years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry or postgraduate laboratory experience; alternatively, an M.S. with at least 5 years or a B.S. with at least 8 years of relevant biopharmaceutical laboratory experience.
• Hands-on experience executing immunoassays in vaccine CMC, biologics analytical development, QC, ASAT, bioanalytical development, or another analytical laboratory environment.
• Experience with immunoassay method development or execution, including reagent preparation, sample preparation, optimization, controls, data analysis, and documentation.
• Technical experience with ligand-binding platforms such as ELISA, MSD, electrochemiluminescence, bead-based, or multiplex assays.
• Experience analyzing standard curves, sample and dilution response, recovery, precision, assay controls, and system suitability criteria.
• Experience in GMP, GLP, or other regulated analytical environments is desired.

• Hands-on experience with MSD platforms.
