R&D Manager - Hair Care & Cosmetics (Cosmetics)

Salary: $69,000–$137,000 annual

What you will do

• Lead formulation and development of new hair care and cosmetic products from concept through commercialization.
• Optimize existing formulations for quality, performance, stability, safety, cost, and manufacturability.
• Manage multiple R&D projects, including timelines, priorities, resources, scale-up, and technology transfer.
• Design formulation experiments and oversee stability, compatibility, efficacy, and safety testing.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to scientists, chemists, and formulation specialists.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Manufacturing, Packaging, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
• At least 7 years of experience in cosmetic or personal care product development.
• At least 2 years of people management or project leadership experience.
• Proven experience in hair care or cosmetic formulation development and product commercialization.
• Knowledge of emulsions, surfactants, polymers, conditioning technologies, stability testing, experimental design, GMP, and cosmetic regulatory requirements.
• English required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or experience in multinational cosmetic or personal care companies.
• Knowledge of cosmetic regulations in North America, Europe, and Asia.
• Experience with contract manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, patents, or intellectual property strategies.
• Familiarity with sustainability, clean beauty, and natural ingredient technologies.
• SCC, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, cosmetic science, or product development certification.
