Sr Engineer, R&D - Packaging Dev (Packaging)

Location: Glenview, Illinois, United States; normal office environment with moderate travel to customer locations, stores, manufacturing facilities, laboratories, and production environments. Travel requirement: 30%.

Base salary: $89,800–$112,200 per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Lead and support complex packaging projects spanning innovation, commercialization, cost savings, and ESG initiatives.
• Act as the packaging lead across cross-functional projects involving multiple business units and product categories.
• Design and execute packaging tests, analyze data, draw conclusions, document findings, and communicate results.
• Complete packaging testing, qualification, and commercialization in laboratory and production environments.
• Translate research findings into business opportunities and support new product launches.
• Create and update packaging specifications while managing concurrent assignments and project timelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific field with at least four years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with three years or a PhD with two years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, packaging equipment and material interactions, and packaging laboratory test methods.
• Proven experience leading packaging innovation projects from concept through commercialization with direct ownership of results.
• Understanding of end-to-end commercialization for new product launches and accountability for R&D timeline actions.
• Excellent communication, influencing, problem-solving, prioritization, teamwork, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage packaging specification systems and maintain accurate documentation and data supporting quality and compliance.
