Mgr, Software Engineering

Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; hybrid work with at least two days per week in the Deckers Japan office. Occasional domestic and international business travel within APAC and globally may be required.

What you will do

• Lead solution design for Japan digital initiatives from discovery through delivery, translating business requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.
• Define architecture and integration patterns for APIs, microservices, cloud-based systems, and enterprise-scale platforms.
• Establish engineering practices covering code quality, CI/CD, testing, code reviews, observability, and production readiness.
• Plan delivery increments, manage dependencies and technical debt, and coordinate release readiness with Business Analysts and Program Managers.
• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop engineers while supporting hiring, onboarding, and capability building.
• Represent Engineering in cross-functional discussions with Product, Operations, Architecture, Security, Business, and shared technology teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including complex enterprise-scale solution delivery.
• At least 3 years in an engineering leadership role with responsibility for technical direction, engineering quality, and delivery outcomes.
• Experience leading Agile SDLC delivery, influencing architecture and engineering standards, and working across global and multi-region teams.
• Hands-on proficiency in one or more relevant stacks, such as Java, .NET, JavaScript, and cloud platforms, plus experience with DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering.
• Fluent English communication skills, written and verbal, and availability to work from the Deckers Japan office at least two days per week.

Nice to have

• Professional certifications in cloud, security, Agile delivery, or project/program management, such as AWS, Azure, Scrum, or PMP.
• Experience with integration platforms, retail technology, omni-channel environments, or consumer-facing digital platforms.
• Experience with Jira and Monday.com.
