Response Engineer - CMDC (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, United States; full-time weekend work is required, with either a Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday schedule. Main working hours are 9:00 to 17:00 Pacific Time, and an in-person interview may be required at a hirify.global office or hub.

What you will do

• Monitor and investigate alerts to identify attacks and determine their urgency and relevance.
• Analyze threats and recommend or directly apply mitigation strategies for customer infrastructure across OSI Layers 3, 4, and 7.
• Support security products including Magic Transit, DDoS mitigation, Network Firewall, WAF, Spectrum, Bot Management, and Rate Limiting.
• Compare IP addresses, cookies, HTTP headers, JavaScript footprints, and other traffic attributes to distinguish legitimate from malicious traffic.
• Configure and manage security monitoring rules, create incident tracking tickets, and escalate alerts when required.
• Communicate extensively with high-value customers and collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Product teams on incident response and tool improvements.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of technical support and customer support experience.
• Strong understanding of the OSI model, TCP, UDP, BGP, and QUIC.
• Advanced understanding of iptables and experience analyzing attack anomalies and creating mitigation rules.
• Experience handling attack mitigation and thorough knowledge of Layer 3/4 and Layer 7 attacks.
• Command-line and Bash shell skills, plus system administration experience with Linux, macOS, or Windows.
• Programming experience with languages or tools such as Python, Ruby, PHP, C, C#, Java, Perl, and Git.

Nice to have

• DDoS mitigation experience using Magic Transit, Network Firewall, WAF, IP reputation lists, packet inspection, blacklisting, whitelisting, or rate limiting.
• Security certifications such as CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, GCFA, or GCFE.
