Senior Software Engineer, Data Foundation – USDS

Location: Seattle, United States; fully in-person schedule of up to 5 days a week

Salary: $177,688–$341,734 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Optimize Apache Spark performance and resource utilization at petabyte scale.
• Improve ClickHouse and Doris OLAP systems through storage-compute separation and query optimization.
• Develop AI-powered resource allocation, cost optimization, job diagnosis, failure analysis, monitoring, and self-healing capabilities.
• Design disaster recovery and data integrity mechanisms for data platforms and pipelines.
• Integrate AI/ML capabilities to improve platform efficiency and developer productivity.
• Drive the technical roadmap, mentor junior engineers, and evaluate technologies at the intersection of distributed systems and AI.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.
• In-depth knowledge of Apache Spark and ClickHouse or Doris.
• Experience with Kafka and Flink at scale.
• Kubernetes experience.
• AI/ML systems experience.
