Software Engineer Intern (Search)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person work up to 5 days a week

Salary: $45 per hour

What you will do

• Optimize search quality and improve the search experience for TikTok users.
• Apply information retrieval and machine learning techniques to product search objectives.
• Build core search systems and algorithms for query understanding, result ranking, and query recommendation.
• Contribute to the reliability of large-scale, consumer-facing search services.
• Collaborate with engineers and participate in internship learning and development activities.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Available for a 12-week internship during Summer 2027.
• Experience developing large-scale consumer-facing services or backend services for large-scale applications.
• Proficiency in one or more of C/C++, Python, Java, or Golang.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Resume must clearly state internship start and end dates.

Nice to have

• Currently pursuing a master's degree in a related technical discipline.
• Knowledge of search, recommendation, ranking, advertising, machine learning, deep learning, backend, large-scale systems, data science, or full-stack development.
• Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Flink, or similar big data frameworks.
