Manager, Chemical Development (Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing)

Location: Hybrid, onsite at the South San Francisco headquarters at least three days per week; domestic and international travel required, with some meetings outside standard business hours to accommodate global time zones.

Salary: $158,000–$193,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Manage international contract manufacturing organizations producing and testing drug substance and starting materials.
• Develop, optimize, and scale chemical manufacturing processes from bench to clinical production.
• Design experiments, analyze production methods, and troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
• Partner with Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs to maintain cGMP and federal regulatory compliance.
• Prepare technical reports, present findings, and track advances in chemical technology.

Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Postgraduate experience in process chemistry and/or cGMP chemical manufacturing: 2–3 or more years with a Ph.D. or 5 or more years with an M.S.
• Knowledge of chemical reaction mechanisms, kinetics, process optimization, and scale-up.
• Familiarity with cGMP regulatory compliance in chemical manufacturing.
• Experience preparing technical reports and presenting to technical and cross-functional audiences.
• Proficiency with ChemDraw and SciFinder; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience working directly with external CMOs on technology transfer or scale-up.
• Environmental health and safety experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
