What you will do

• Apply modern synthetic techniques to prepare complex chemical targets for oncology drug discovery programs.
• Design reaction sequences that reduce chemical liabilities and difficult purification steps.
• Rapidly investigate reaction information, troubleshoot problematic transformations, and develop practical, scalable chemistry.
• Synthesize molecules at scales ranging from 10 mg to more than 25 g while maintaining productivity and safety.
• Use SAR data and structure-based design to propose molecules with improved affinity and selectivity.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and help manage external synthetic chemistry resources.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry and 0–3 years of pharmaceutical industry medicinal chemistry experience.
• Strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including asymmetric reactions, modern cross-coupling techniques, purification, and spectroscopic characterization.
• Knowledge of medicinal chemistry concepts, including structure-based and SAR-driven design, multi-parameter optimization, physicochemical properties, ADME, and pharmacology.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex structures productively, troubleshoot synthetic problems, and develop scalable chemistry.
• Strong scientific record-keeping, communication, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work onsite at the South San Francisco headquarters five days per week.
