Entry-Level Substation Estimator (Electrical Construction)

Location: East Syracuse, New York, United States; office-based work combined with field/site visits and approximately 25% travel.

Salary: $82,000–$115,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Review bid specifications, drawings, and requirements for substation construction projects valued at approximately $500K–$10M.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs, detailed cost estimates, project schedules, and cost forecasts.
• Secure vendor and supplier pricing in partnership with Procurement.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, maintain bid coverage, and follow up on competitive participation.
• Track budget-to-actual comparisons and collaborate with Project Management on bids, budgets, awards, and document handover.
• Identify risks, scope gaps, and constructability concerns while maintaining accurate bid records and supporting a strong safety culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 0–3 years of related experience in estimating, utility, or electrical construction.
• Experience with negotiation and subcontractor coordination.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work in office and field environments, including outdoor weather, active construction sites, moderate noise, and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.

Nice to have

• Experience in substation, transmission, or utility construction.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software such as Accubid or HCSS.
• Exposure to project management or field operations.
• Experience with utility clients or power delivery contractors.
