Engineering Manager, Data Platform (AI)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $208,800–$438,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of data engineers and software engineers.
• Own the reliability, timeliness, quality, SLAs, on-call health, incident response, and postmortem improvements for batch and streaming pipelines and data assets.
• Build and adopt automation, self-healing pipelines, AI-assisted SRE tooling, LLM-powered data development and code review, automated data quality checks, and intelligent cost optimization.
• Partner with Product, Analytics, Data Science, and Engineering stakeholders to translate business priorities into a data delivery and reliability roadmap.
• Collaborate with the Data Foundation team to shape platform requirements and adopt new capabilities.
• Ensure pipelines, datasets, and tooling meet U.S. data governance, privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience building and operating enterprise-grade data platforms or large-scale distributed data systems, including 3+ years in engineering leadership or engineering management.
• Hands-on experience with production batch and streaming systems using technologies such as Spark, Flink, Hadoop, Kafka, Druid, ClickHouse, or equivalents.
• Experience with on-call ownership, SLA management, incident response, modern data architectures, and reliable, efficient, observable pipelines.
• Demonstrated ability to improve throughput, reliability, or cost efficiency through automation, tooling, or architectural change.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, cross-functional partnership, strategic thinking, and hands-on problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience applying AI or LLM technologies to data operations, observability, governance, cataloging, or cost optimization.
• Experience leading a business-embedded data engineering team supporting e-commerce, live streaming, or consumer social products.
• Familiarity with data compliance and privacy requirements, including U.S. data sovereignty and PII handling.
