Senior Structural Engineer (Marine Composites)

Location: Edgewater, Florida, United States; onsite role with occasional travel of approximately 5% and occasional onsite evaluations.

Hiring range: $84,500–$123,900 annual base pay, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Lead structural analysis and design for composite and metallic boat structures, fastenings, and mechanisms using FEA and other CAE tools.
• Develop structural solutions that optimize material usage against weight, cost, and performance targets.
• Design and evaluate composite laminate schedules for structural members and molded components using open- and closed-molding processes.
• Validate designs through analysis, physical testing, and correlation methods.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, testing, suppliers, and program management teams.
• Provide technical direction and mentoring, review engineering change notices, and author technical reports and design documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline; significant relevant experience may substitute for education requirements.
• Extensive experience in structural analysis and design of composite and metallic structures.
• Proficiency with finite element analysis tools; Altair HyperMesh is preferred or an equivalent tool.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production constraints.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and provide technical direction within cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and marine industry experience, including knowledge of boat construction methods.
• Experience with fiberglass composite manufacturing, including infusion and RTM.
• Familiarity with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, data acquisition systems, and test systems such as Simcenter Testlab, Dewesoft, or Somat eDAQ.
• Knowledge of NMMA, ABYC, and ISO standards; Design for Six Sigma certification or experience.
• Prior mentoring or technical leadership experience and passion for boating.
