What you will do

• Apply modern synthetic techniques to prepare complex chemical targets for oncology drug discovery programs.
• Design reaction sequences, troubleshoot difficult transformations, and develop practical, scalable chemistry.
• Synthesize molecules at scales ranging from 10 mg to more than 25 g while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.
• Use SAR data, structure-based design, and computational tools to propose molecules with improved affinity and selectivity.
• Champion new design and synthesis directions and communicate results and strategies to multidisciplinary teams.
• Help manage external synthetic chemistry resources and support delivery of pipeline goals.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry.
• 3–8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in medicinal chemistry.
• Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including asymmetric reactions, modern cross-coupling, purification, and spectroscopic characterization.
• Experience synthesizing complicated chemical structures, troubleshooting synthetic problems, and developing scalable chemistry.
• Strong knowledge of medicinal chemistry, SAR, multi-parameter optimization, drug physicochemical properties, ADME, and pharmacology.
• Ability to work onsite at the South San Francisco headquarters five days per week and comply with the facility vaccination policy, subject to applicable accommodations.
