Staff Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: US-Remote; Columbus; New York

Salary: $187,000–$234,000 annually plus equity

What you will do

• Drive large cross-functional engineering initiatives from planning through production.
• Set the technical strategy for redesigning legacy data pipelines into a modular, reusable data platform.
• Own data models, platform tooling, and scalable batch and streaming pipelines using cloud technologies and distributed systems.
• Build deployment tools and self-service capabilities for configurable data.
• Improve monitoring, failure detection, operational excellence, and infrastructure visibility.
• Partner with product, AI, infrastructure, health systems integration, and business intelligence teams while mentoring engineers and governing data privacy and security.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience and extensive experience driving technical projects and decisions across teams.
• Deep expertise in SQL, data analysis, and data modeling.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud environments.
• Experience with Spark or Flink for batch and microbatch analytics.
• Proficiency in Python or another programming language, major cloud providers such as AWS, and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
• Experience designing scalable, available, maintainable, and performant systems, with the ability to apply data mesh principles to data products.
