Managing Legal Counsel – Intellectual Property

Location: Owings Mills, Maryland, United States. Hybrid schedule with up to one day per week working from home.

Base salary: $174,000–$297,000 annually for Maryland, Colorado, Washington, and remote workers. Employees may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Execute the firm’s global intellectual property strategy across trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, domain names, patents, and proprietary content.
• Advise on naming, trademark clearance, filing strategy, prosecution, maintenance, launch readiness, and brand protection.
• Lead IP enforcement, investigations, disputes, cease-and-desist matters, domain name issues, and marketplace monitoring.
• Draft, negotiate, and advise on IP licenses and IP provisions in complex commercial, technology, data, content, and supplier agreements.
• Manage outside counsel, portfolio deadlines, budgets, reporting, matter intake, prioritization, workflows, and stakeholder communications.
• Develop IP training, playbooks, templates, self-service tools, reporting processes, and technology-enabled operating models.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 10+ years of relevant intellectual property legal experience with the ability to advise independently on complex matters.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. and global IP laws, including portfolio management, clearance, prosecution, licensing, enforcement, copyright compliance, and trade secret protection.
• Experience leading legal workstreams, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and operating with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, leadership, and prioritization skills.
• FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience advising clients in asset management or financial services.
• Experience creating scalable legal frameworks, playbooks, templates, training programs, and stakeholder resources.
• Experience working with compliance, risk, procurement, product, marketing, data, technology, and business stakeholders.
• Familiarity with operational risk, controls, governance frameworks, and technology-enabled legal service delivery.
